Rusea’s, Manchester take over D Cup zones

Former champions Rusea’s High and Manchester High ran their records to four wins on Saturday’s weather-affected round of matches in the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition.

Rusea’s High, who ended the game with 10 men, edged rivals Frome Technical 1-0 in Zone B while Manchester High beat Mt St Joseph Catholic 6-0 in their Zone F game, both taking over the lead in their groups.

At least six of the 22 games were not played or were interrupted by lightning and will have to be rescheduled by the organisers.

Deandre Brown scored for Rusea’s High in the second half to end Frome Technical’s perfect record at two wins, but saw midfielder Alaqa Logan sent off when he was shown a second yellow card in the game.

Manchester High surged into the lead in Zone F with their win as Belair High’s game against May Day High was not played due to a waterlogged field.

Cedric Titus High and Garvey Maceo High both lost their perfect win records; William Knibb Memorial rebounded from their loss on Wednesday to Ocho Rios High to beat Cedric Titus 3-0 in Martha Brae, while Kemps Hill High held Garvey Maceo to a 1-1 draw.

Central High, last year’s beaten finalists, won their first game in style, hammering Porus High 16-0, after back-to-back losses to open the season.

Nathaniel Howe scored four times for Central High and James Gallimore scored a hat-trick.

York Castle High also scored in double digits with a 10-0 win over Discovery Bay High, with Kemari Hunter scoring three times.

Maggotty High hammered Roger Clarke 8-0 in their game that was shortened to 80 minutes after it was interrupted by lightning, and deCarteret College also scored eight against Cross Keys.
