Gunmen rob Sharkies restaurant in St Ann
ST ANN, Jamaica – Popular seafood restaurant Sharkies in Runaway Bay, St Ann was reportedly robbed on Monday morning.
Event promoter and restauranteur, Alwyn “Brown Speed” Brown has expressed dismay and hurt at the incident.
In his Instagram story, Brown wrote, “Can you believe say me grow up a Runaway Bay and lived here all my life and the bwoy dem come rob Sharkies wid gun this morning? I’m happy say dem nuh hurt the bearer but me feel offended.”
He continued in another slide, “Defend me community, represent me community, give back to me community and the man dem come diss me.”
Reports are that one of the managers for the business was robbed by bike-riding thugs a few minutes before 9 am.
It is alleged that the manager had just prepared the deposit from the previous weekend’s sales and as she stepped outside, she was approached by an individual in a white t-shirt with a firearm who demanded the bag and its contents. The woman complied and was then ordered to run.
The men absconded with the money.
“The crime was captured on camera and footage has been shared with the police who are doing their investigation. No arrests have been made,” Brown told Observer Online.
Brown is the promoter for the popular Sharkies Seafood Festival and the occasional live music festivities at the Plantation Smokehouse. He was happy that no one was hurt in the incident.
“We’re actually celebrating 10 years of being in business under this management this week, so it was unfortunate that we were met with this incident at the beginning of the week,” he said.
