Perfect Brew — a crack come-from-behind sprinter
Trainer Richard Azan believes his charge Perfect Brew is more than capable enough to test the waters of the Philip Feanny Gold Cup and possibly the Mouttet Mile.
This came after the four-year-old bay gelding won the third running of the I’msatisfied Trophy feature with a scintillating gallop on Saturday, October 7, 2023. Perfect Brew won the Open Allowance race for three-year-olds and upwards at six furlongs (1,200m) by four and a half lengths. The race finished in a clocking of 1:12.1 (23.0 x 46.1).
The Gold Cup (7 furlongs) is scheduled for Monday, October 16, while the Mouttet Mile is set for December 2.
“Perfect Brew is a run-on sprinter, and if the pace is set up right, he always runs well, and today [Saturday], it happened that way,” Azan said.
“He is improving, and although he is four years old, he is improving each time. He is running so well, so maybe we will be looking forward to the bigger races to come. We have the Gold Cup next week, and if we can qualify, we will go to the Mouttet Mile then as well,” Azan added.
With jockey Tevin Foster riding, Perfect Brew was the last of the seven runners to leave the starting gates at the break. Rojorn Di Pilot led the field ahead of Lure of Lucy (Jerome Innis), I’ve Got Magic (Bebeto Harvey), and God of Love (Anthony Allen).
Jordon Reign’s (Dane Dawkins) surrounded horses and showed the way ahead of I’ve Got Magic, Rojorn Di Pilot, and the now-bubbling Perfect Brew, as the runners sorted themselves out approaching the half-mile (800m) bend.
Turning for home, Jordon Reign’s and I’ve Got Magic were locked in a stretch-run fight but Foster urged his mount for a push.
Perfect Brew switched gears and shot away, winning handily ahead of I’ve Got Magic and Jordon Reign’s.
