Petersfield edge Gray’s Inn in JFF Championships final
DESPITE giving up a two-goal lead after the first hour, Petersfield FC of Westmoreland held on to beat Gray’s Inn of St Mary 5-4 on penalties after playing out a 2-2 draw following extra time in Sunday’s final of the Jamaica Football Federation Championships play-off at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence in Kingston.
Petersfield FC, who will join fellow Westmoreland team Reno FC in the championships, ended the season unbeaten but both finalists had previously qualified for the championships after winning their semi-final games a week earlier.
Meanwhile, in the third-place play-off St Bess United beat Seaforth FC 2-1 with goals from Rajay Wright and Orlando Ricketts, and also qualified for the championships.
In the final Khamali Burley scored twice in the first half to give Petersfield FC the lead, netting in the 31st and 43rd minutes, but Gray’s Inn drew level in the second half thanks to goals from Rasheed Dennis in the 63rd minute and Kwesi Jones in the 84th.
When extra time failed to break the deadlock the title was settled from the penalty spot.
