Digital One makes another progressive step
Don Wehby, owner of Digital One, isn’t counting his lucky stars just yet, but he believes that if his two-year-old bay filly stays sound and healthy, she could develop into a competitor of note.
The American-bred Digital One remained unbeaten in two career starts following an impressive win in the Hover Craft Sprint over six furlongs on Saturday, October 28, 2023.
Digital One, trained by Jason DaCosta and ridden by Reyan Lewis, made all to win the native-bred and imported two-year-olds by 6 ½ lengths, clocking 1:13.3 (23.3 x 45.1) for the distance.
“This is just fantastic from her. I mean, she is getting better and better. When you look at the race, she is obviously a horse with a lot of class and hopefully, if she stays sound she is going to have a lot of places to go,” Wehby told the Jamaica Observer‘s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“I am very, very happy with her. She has done five-and-a-half and six furlongs, and I think maybe the trainer will step her up to seven furlongs and see what she does. She is still a baby but I love her action.
“When you have horses like these, you have to manage your expectations and hopefully they stay sound. But once she stays healthy, I think she will be a top contender,” he added.
Digital One made a strong early break and rapidly took the lead ahead of Run Julie Run (Omar Walker). As she approached the half-mile (800m) turn, the bay filly began to lengthen her strides and open up on Run Julie Run.
