UPDATE: Petersfield High dismisses classes early after students die in tragic car accident
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – The Petersfield High School dismissed classes early Tuesday following the tragic death of two of their students in a fiery crash along the Petersfield main road on Tuesday morning.
Acting Principal of the institution, Vinton Vaz, told Observer Online that the school dismissed the morning shift at 11:00 am.
“So for this morning we gathered and prayed, no classes. Classes were suspended for today and it was more of grief counselling, meeting with the students and talking and helping to recover,” he said.
The police identified the deceased students as 16-year-old Ajani Robinson and 14-year-old Zackeal McIntyre, both of Pinnock Charfton in Darliston, Westmoreland.
Reports from the Whithorn Police are that about 6:50 am, Robinson and McIntyre were travelling on a motorcycle heading northerly along the Petersfield main road when they were manoeuvering a corner and lost control. The teens then collided with a motorcar, which caught fire. The police were summoned and they were transported to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Observer Online understands that the driver of the vehicle was left unhurt.
