A full field of 16 set for inaugural Bruceontheloose Sprint Trophy on Mouttet Mile Day
A full field of 16 horses is set to contest the highly anticipated inaugural Bruceontheloose Sprint Trophy on Mouttet Mile Day, scheduled for Saturday, December 2. The Bruceontheloose Sprint Trophy, a six-and-a-half-furlong race, carries a substantial total purse of $2.5 million.
Denzil Miller, racing secretary for Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL), expressed the organisation’s delight in honouring Bruceontheloose on Mouttet Mile Day at Caymanas Park.
Miller highlighted the significance of recognising a talented horse that excelled as a champion three-year-old in Jamaica and continued its path of excellence in Trinidad and Tobago.
“The addition of the Bruceontheloose Trophy is a great enhancement to the Mouttet Mile programme,” Miller stated. “To honour a horse as talented as he was, being a champion three-year-old in Jamaica and then shipped to Trinidad and Tobago to continue on a path of excellence over there, speaks volumes about what this race can achieve.”
Miller emphasised that the race would feature some of the country’s top sprinters, including Atomica, Mama Mia, She’s My Destiny, and Mojito. He anticipates a competitive line-up and hopes for potential excitement, intrigue, and passion for thoroughbred racing in Jamaica.
“This race points in the direction of the best sprinters that we have in the island over the six and a half furlongs. Eros holds the track record, and maybe somebody can get close to it or even break the record,” Miller opined. “It will certainly add a lot of excitement and intrigue and, of course, passion for thoroughbred racing in Jamaica.”
Similar to the Mouttet Mile, the Bruceontheloose Trophy race transcends geographical boundaries as Bruceontheloose achieved success in both Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. He was crowned champion three-year-old in Jamaica in 2009 and awarded Horse of the Year four times in Trinidad and Tobago (2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012).
The other horses set to compete in the race are I am Fred, Perfect Brew, Is That A Fact, I’ve Got Magic, Miniature Man, Lure Of Lucy, Freedom Street, Desert Of Malibu, Tekapunt, Outbidder, D Head Cornerstone, and Madelyn’s Sunshine.
