Hostage, the new song from deejay Mission da gr81, is scheduled for release in early January. It is produced by JonFX, with whom he has been working for almost one year.

Mission da gr81, who lives in South Florida, told Observer Online that most of 2023 saw him recording songs for different producers including JonFX, another resident of the Sunshine State.

“Dis year, I recorded for about five or six different producers, so I’m finishing up most of dem, adding some female background vocals. These things are in di works, wi not rushing it,” he said.

Hostage is the follow-up to Yardman Style, which was also produced by JonFX, who has had success with acts such as Gyptian, Sizzla and platinum-selling rapper XXXTentacion.

The St Catherine-born Mission da gr81’s first song, Champion, was produced by Lighthouse Records and released in late 2022. Off The Hook, produced by The Legion out of California, also came out last year.

Mission da gr81 is originally from Linstead but spent some of his formal years in St Mary. He migrated to the United States in 1989, and grew up in The Bronx, New York where he was exposed to hip hop acts such as the Notorious BIG and Busta Rhymes.
