Gayle, Buff Bay win in Sandals/Costley T20 Bash
GAYLE and Buff Bay United scored emphatic victories as action continued in the Sandals/Costley Construction St Mary T20 Big Bash last Sunday at Mango Valley Oval.
Buff Bay crushed United All-Stars by eight wickets while Gayle cruised past Mango Valley by 129 runs in the feature match of the day.
In the opening encounter under sunny skies United All-Stars won the toss and elected to bat on a wicket which proved to have some moisture underneath from the rainfall that has beset the parish recently. They were dismissed for 121 from 17 overs, all-rounder Damion Bryce top scoring with a well-made 46. Romeo McDonald (20) and Howyane Hoilette (11) were the other chief contributors to the scoresheet.
For Buff Bay the main wicket-takers were Herman Henry with 2-27, Kemar Roper 2-23, and Cion Jolly 2-27.
Buff Bay, in reply, waltzed to 124-2 in just 13.1 overs, with Dwayne Hyatt cracking a solid 48 not out while Herman Henry chipped in with 31 not out and Robert Weir 22.
In the feature match before a fair-sized crowd Gayle, batting first, put up a mammoth 202 for 7 from their 20 overs. Ellando Robinson (49) and national Under-19 representative Trevaun Williams (42) were the most savage of the batsmen. Mickhail Downer, 34 not out, and Howard Palmer (34) were also among the runs.
Top bowlers for Mango Valley were Michael Belnavis 2-37 and Jordan Pinnock 2-52.
In their turn at the crease Mango Valley could not cope with the Gayle bowling attack and were bundled out for 73 in 13 overs. Only Orlando Royce, who top scored with 25, offered any resistance for Mango Valley.
The competition continues on Sunday with two exciting matches at Mango Valley Oval. At 9:30 am it will be Highgate vs Mango Valley while Boscobel and Buff Bay United meet in the feature at 1:30 pm.
