Mt Pleasant FA edge Humble Lion in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica -Champions Mt Pleasant FA rebounded from their home loss to Arnett Gardens with a slim 1-0 win over Humble Lion at Drax Hall on Sunday and will stay on top of the points table going into the new year.
Mt Pleasant have lost three of their last five games after starting the season with six straight wins and are on 25 points from 12 games played. This is one more than Tivoli Gardens and Portmore United who were both winners on Sunday; Arnett Gardens fell to fourth on 21 points after their second loss.
Daniel Green’s 48th minute penalty conversion gave Mt Pleasant their eighth win of the season as Humble Lion have now lost four of their last five games played.
Tivoli Gardens beat Lime Hall Academy, the only team in the league yet to win a game, 3-1 at the Anthony Spaulding Complex. Tivoli have improved to 24 points from 12 games, two more points than they earned all of last season when they finished 11th overall, and their seventh win was two more than they won all of last year.
Kimarley Smith gave Tivoli the lead after 11 minutes, Carlos Campbell leveled from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute but Alton Lewis restored Tivoli’s lead in the 44th minute. Rodrico Wellington added a fourth goal for Tivoli Gardens in the 86th minute.
Portmore United continued their good run with a fourth straight win, scoring seven goals without conceding any over the span, beating Arnett Gardens 2-0 at Ferdie Neita Park.
Both goals came in a five-minute span in the second half, Geo Headley firing them into the lead in the 69th minute before Shaquwell Henry added a second goal in the 74th minute.
Cavalier SC had back to back wins after edging Dunbeholden FC 1-0, ending the St Catherine team’s win streak at three games.
Jalmaro Calvin’s 43rd minute goal was the difference in the game as Cavalier SC moved into fifth place on goal-difference ahead of Vere United; both teams are on 18 points.
Meanwhile, Waterhouse FC who played with 10 players from the second minute earned a point from their 1-1 draw with Molynes United in their game played at the Waterhouse mini stadium.
Delano Daley was sent off in the second minute but Andre Fletcher gave them the lead five minutes later.
A 69th minute penalty conversion by Jason Wright however saw Molynes United share the points.
And Vere United extended Treasure Beach FC’s misery, handing the St Elizabeth club a sixth straight loss, winning 2-0 at the St Elizabeth Technical Sports Complex with goals from Lamard Neil in the 43rd minute and Alrick Maitland in the 46th minute.
At Wespow Park, home team Montego Bay United (MBU) came from a goal down to lead Harbour View 2-1 at half time but had to settle for a 2-2 draw in a game between the 10th and 11th place teams.
Andre Fagan gave Harbour View the lead in the 15th minute but MBU took the lead with two goals in five minutes from Brazillians Jean Claudio Rios Ferreira in the 27th minute and Lucas Lima Correa in the 32nd minute.
Omar Thompson however salvaged a point for Harbour View with a goal in the 63rd minute.
