Notnice has Grammy hopes

Notnice has Grammy hopes

On November 10 last year producer Notnice was on his way to conduct business when he received a call from his lawyer.

That call made his day.

Notnice was so excited after receiving the call that he immediately jumped on a conference call with several of his musical co-workers to share the good news.

He had contributed to Julian Marley and Antaeus’s album
Colors of Royal, which earned a nomination for Best Reggae Album in the 66th Grammy Awards.

“When I heard that the project was nominated I actually got a call from my lawyer telling me congratulations, and I said, what are you congratulating me for? She said Julian Marley’s album was nominated for a Grammy. Right away I called my business partner as well as Nordia Mothersille, who wrote the song on Julian’s album, and I got everyone on the phone just to share the news with the people who worked on the project,” Notnice said in an interview with the
Jamaica Observer on Wednesday.

Notnice (real name Ainsley Morris) produced the track
Robbed, which is featured on
Colors of Royal. Mothersille wrote the song. He is hoping that the album will emerge victorious over the other nominees — Buju Banton’s
Born for Greatness,
Simma by Beenie Man,
Cali Roots Riddim 2023 by Collie Buddz, and
No Destroyer by Burning Spear.

“Winning a Grammy is one of the greatest achievements in music. To be a Grammy-winning producer is a good feeling,” said Notnice.

He added: “I am hoping to get a call the day of the Grammys to say that the album won.”

This is not the first time that Notnice has contributed to a Grammy-nominated project.

“I produced the song
So Mi Like It that was featured on Spice’s Grammy-nominated album
10,” he disclosed.

According to Notnice, collaborating with Marley was a good experience.

“Working with Julian was easy. He is an easy-going person and a pretty cool artiste. He was good to work with, and this was our second time working on a project. During COVID he did four bars on a multi-artiste song called
We Are,” Notnice disclosed.

Notnice scored Billboard success in 2009 when his production
Ramping Shop, by Vybz Kartel and Spice, peaked at #76 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Ten years later his 18-song album
King Mydas entered and peaked at #9 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.

Notnice has scored a hit for the new year with Chronic Law’s
Weekend (Bup Bup). The song is featured a new cut of the 2010
Street Vybz rhythm, which is called
Street Vybz 2.0.

First released in 2010 via Adidjahiem/Notnice Records, the
Street Vybz rhythm featured the hit songs
Up Inna Di Club by Popcaan,
Street Vybz by Vybz Kartel, as well as songs by Merital Family and Shawn Storm.

He said there are other songs to be released from the new cut of the
Street Vybz
2.0 project. However, he said they will be revealed shortly.

“The reason why I decided to re-release the
Street Vybz rhythm is just because of the fans. When Rvssian re-released his
Go Go Club rhythm, mi realise people were tagging me on social media, encouraging me to revamp the
Street Vybz and other rhythms. So, mi jus say, ‘Alright, mi ago build it over.’ The whole aim is to inject back some life into juggling. Mi have over 15 songs so far. Juggling a nice up back di place; it a bring a nice party vibe to the dancehall,” Notnice opined.
