Hibbert targets Olympic, World U20 double
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Jamaica’s two-time men’s triple jump champion Jaydon Hibbert is targeting a unique Olympic Games/World Under -20 double for this season, he said in a virtual press conference on Sunday.
Hibbert, who signed a professional contract last week, but would still attend classes at the University of Arkansas, said he was bypassing the indoor (short track) season and would be focussed on the outdoor season.
He has prioritised four events: the Olympic Games, the JAAA National Championships, the Diamond League and the World Under- 20.
His coach, Travis Geopfert, explained the process of choosing the events.
“Typically we plan backwards from the major event and obviously the Olympic Games is the major event this year so we will choose the other meets that we will use to prepare,” he said.
“The decision to defend his World Under- 20 title was not difficult in spite of the result at the Olympic Games, he has the opportunity so why not go there and have fun.”
The World Under -20 Championship, which will be held in Lima, Peru, starts two weeks after the end of the Olympic Games.
