Sensational Move was good in James B Dawes Trophy run
Trainer Gary Subratie believes Sensational Move, his four-year-old chestnut colt, is finally revealing his full worth and will be competitive in higher level races in the future.
Sensational Move registered his fifth career victory on Sunday, January 28, 2024 when he easily defeated rivals in Division One of the $1.25-million James B Dawes Memorial Trophy, an Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m).
Ridden by Raddesh Roman, Sensational Move ( Sensational Slam – Money Move) sat in second position before Rambling Rose (Javaniel Patterson) going into the half-mile (800m) turn, before surging to the front full of running approaching the distance.
Sensational Slam won by 12 ½ lengths at the wire in a time of 1:05.4 (23.1 x 46.2) ahead of
Kwaku (Jerome Innis) and The Good Witch (Ramon Nepare).
“I am pleased with the win. I mean, this horse is really special, but he had his issues early on in his three-year-old career, and I think we have gotten over that. We are going to see how far he can go.
“He got a good one, and that was the key. I knew that if he had broken well, he would have won the race. He is a tough little horse, and he tries, and that is what I love about him,” Subratie told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
