PNP’s Shawn McGregor hoping to secure victory in upcoming polls following one-vote defeat in 2016
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Having lost the Rae Town Division by one vote in a magisterial recount in the 2016 Local Government elections, the People’s National Party’s Shawn McGregor is confident that he will enjoy a change of fortune this time around.
McGregor told Observer Online that he’s entering this year’s polls “seven years wiser” and even more energised as he seeks to secure victory.
“Seven years ago, I was seven years younger, now I’m seven years wiser. There are a lot of lessons that we learnt. We made a lot of mistakes. I thank the people that came out and voted seven years ago and we are as energised as ever can be now,” he said as he walked with supporters to be nominated on Thursday.
McGregor will once again face the Jamaica Labour Party’s Rosalie Hamilton who secured victory for the ruling party by one vote last election.
Hamilton received 1884 while McGregor received 1883. Hamilton had initially won by 21 votes in the final count in the November 28, 2016 polls. The margin of victory was reduced following a recount.
