Our Precious Love
“Grateful for the heartfelt melodies of our dear friend Charie Jones, accompanied by our Grammy Award-winning cousin Justin Wilson who served as music director ,bringing warmth and joy to our celebration all the way from NC”— Larry & Abigail Matt Khoury

Our Precious Love

“Our dogs actually introduced us! Leo and Taz, my two little guard dogs had a way of making new friends, and that’s exactly what happened that day. As I was walking, I noticed a guy walking his big Doberman. I also noticed that around that same area where he was walking his dog, that dog poop had not been picked up and I suspected he was the guilty culprit, so I kindly asked him if he needed a poop bag!

Our first conversation was brief, but memorable. He was charming and had a great sense of humour. I couldn’t help but be drawn to him.” Dr Abigail O’Reggio to Tuesday Style Vows (TSV)

Let’s go back a bit! For Dr Abigail O’Reggio, a typical day consisted of work, work and more work. After a long day she came home to walk her dogs. Who knew that this night would be different? In her own words… “This night, I would meet my future husband!” Indeed, she would meet histotechnologist Larry T Jenkins, a man she found charming and with a great sense of humour and to whom she couldn’t help but be drawn.

“After that day, we started running into each other more frequently. Our dogs acted as our wingmen, always making excuses for us to talk. It was clear we had a connection, and we started dating shortly after.

“Looking back, I can’t believe how lucky we were to have our dogs bring us together. When you know you know! It just goes to show that sometimes, God has a way of bringing people into our lives when we least expect it. And in my case, it was through the unconditional love of our furry friends.

“We fell in love and have come so far in nurturing and growing our relationship. It’s so precious to me!”

When he popped the question it was an automatic yes from Abigail.

“The ring he gave me was stunning and perfect. It reflected the essence of our love and commitment to each other. The Black Diamond is a symbol of our individual journeys and how two imperfect people came together to make something beautiful! I treasure it even more with each passing day. Our love story is a testament to the saying that true love is worth waiting for. And I’m grateful that we found each other during the most unexpected circumstances.

“Who knew that walking my dogs at our apartment complex would lead me to finding the love of my life? The unexpected encounter with my fiancé while doing my residency at UNC Hospital made me believe in God’s destiny for me. The perfect first date at the dog park and getting to know each other opened up a new chapter in our journey together. And now with the proposal, we are excited about starting this new journey together as a married couple. So always keep your heart and mind open, who knows what God has in store for you!” she added.

Here comes the bride

The date of the wedding was November 11, 2023 and the venue was Prospect Estates Frankfort Villas. Petals and Promises, the wedding planners secured it was now countdown to the wedding.

Wedding dress shopping, explained Abigail, “was an unforgettable adventure filled with laughter, sisterly banter, and the wise guidance of my mother, who flew all the way from Jamaica to join the fun. Picture this: A room filled with tulle and lace, the air buzzing with excitement as my sisters and I sifted through countless gowns. Amidst the chaos, my mother’s discerning eye and infectious laughter brought so much clarity and joy. We found the perfect dress, and the experience became a cherished chapter in my pre-wedding tale”.

The décor featured vibrant tropical florals and eclectic elements that brought the beauty of the tropics to life. The ceremony was adorned with a tropical bouquet of protea roses, birds of paradise ginger lilies, carnations eucalyptus, and monstera leaves — an incomplete arch bursting with bright colours of corals, peach, pinks, and oranges served as a captivating backdrop. The wooden-crossed back chairs added a touch of rustic charm, complementing the luxe modern lounge and bar set up on the sand. Frames with fun facts about the couple added a personal touch to cocktail tables while guests were invited to take shots to enter the reception, setting the tone for a lively celebration. The signature drinks, named after the couple’s beloved dogs, added an endearing and personalised touch. The tables were adorned with opened dried coconuts, tropical floral garlands, and large floral topiaries accented with candles, creating an enchanting atmosphere. Each guest’s place setting had their names on monstera leaves, adding an organic feel to the setting, while the seating chart, displayed on vinyl records with guests’ names and table numbers, was an ode to the couple’s love for music. The guests dined under a fairy lighted clear top tent with hanging monstera leaves and wicker lanterns.

Incorporating Jamaican Culture:

“Being Jamaican holds a special place in my heart, I am a proud Jamaican Caribbean Gal!! I wanted our wedding to reflect the vibrant spirit of my roots. Picture the scene: a private beachfront ceremony right on the sand, with the rhythmic waves serenading our vows. The setting sun painted the sky with hues of coral and gold, mirroring the warmth of our love”.

Jamaican culture weaved through every detail, from the reggae beats of the steel pan band, to the live orchestral string ensemble that set the mood and I can’t forget the world-renowned Ashebre Chef Oji Jaja who whipped up the delectable flavours of Jamaican cuisine. Guests were greeted with the sweet aroma of jerk chicken, oxtail, and red snapper. We did not hold back on anything surrounding the Jamaican feast. From the refreshing homemade sorrel and ginger beer to the zing of coconut water served in fresh coconuts. The vibrant colours of the Marigold gowns echoed the tropical blooms of the island, creating a visual symphony of Jamaican influences.

The couple’s best memories:

Naturally, wedding officiant Pastor Kelby McCottry, the bridegroom’s cousin who guided us through the exchange of vows.

The bride’s parents Bonnie and Michael O’Reggio who escorted her to her anxious bridegroom

Picture the dance floor, where happiness and love became a celebration. My husband and I, surrounded by the laughter and joy of family and friends, danced the night away. The beats of reggae and the sounds of laughter merged into a harmonious melody. Pure bliss! It was a moment frozen in time, where love, laughter, and the rhythm of celebration intertwined to create the perfect memory.

Our wedding was not just an event; it was a love story infused with humour, cultural richness, and the vibrant energy of Jamaica. Lots of laughter, family, and love!

The bride’s entrance song:
Fall For You
by Leela James
was
sung live by Grammy-nominated artiste and songwriter Shelea who was flown to Jamaica by the couple. She also sang
Best Part whilst the couple shared their first dance as husband and wife.
