Walton’s big century powers Scorpions on day two of regional cricket match
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Chadwick Walton scored an impressive 163 to bring the Jamaica Scorpions within touching distance of taking a first-innings lead against Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) on Thursday in the regional four-day cricket match at Sabina Park.
The 38-year-old Walton exquisitely struck 16 fours and five sixes off 245 deliveries for his sixth first-class hundred as the Scorpions closed day two on 259-6, still 48 runs adrift of the CCC’s score of 307 all out.
Carlos Brown, Walton’s opening partner, was the next-best scorer with 48. The two shared a first-wicket stand of 169.
The CCC’s 17-year-old wrist spinner Zishan Motara, playing in only his second first-class match, grabbed 4-69.
Earlier, the CCC team resumed from an overnight score of 260-7 and added a further 47 runs for the loss of the final three wickets.
The 36-year-old left-hander Jonathan Carter, who began the day on 108, went on to hit a composed unbeaten 137, his sixth century in first-class cricket. He stylishly hit 15 fours and two sixes off 213 balls, as none of his teammates reached 40 in the innings.
Pacer Gordon Bryan (3-66) had the Scorpions’ best bowling figures, while fast bowler Ojay Shields also chipped in with three wickets.
