The Gentle Man for the ladies

Romain Virgo’s fourth studio album champions women

Romain Virgo has never shied away from using his music to empower and show his appreciation for women, frequently spotlighting them in all their diversity and femininity. Two tracks in particular, Good Woman and I Believe, from his recently released album, The Gentle Man, speak to his commitment to uplifting women in their goals, challenges, and life journeys.

“I kept some important questions in mind while working on this album. Who am I to my fans? To those close to me? To myself? People saw me go from this inexperienced youth with a gentle way of doing things to a man with the same morals, but new understanding. With this project, I present my full, authentic self. This is who I am,” said Romain Virgo.

The Gentle Man, a 12-track project is via VP Records.

On Good Woman, Romain counts his blessings, singing: “She’s the full package/ Everything I need/ Maybe I am lucky ‘cause I can’t believe/ She’s more of everything that’s guaranteed.”

Similarly, on I Believe he shares catchy melodies and an unmistakable vocal charm to have listeners consider the enormous impact that women have on the world, joined by Nigerian star Patoranking.

Virgo, speaking days after his March 1 album launch, on the importance of International Women’s Day (March 8), said: “Some women have corporate jobs, some women are teachers, and some women sell in the market. Good women surround us everywhere. [W]e celebrate you for the amazing impact you have on our lives. Men are paying more attention…”

With production credits from Donovan “Don Corleon” Bennett, Oliver “Cadenza” Rodigan, Phillip “Winta” James, Romeich Major, Maurice “Seani B” Delauney, Nicholas “Niko” Browne, among others, The Gentle Man builds on Romain’s soul-stirring reggae palette, closing the gaps between roots reggae, lovers’ rock, Afrobeats, and more.

He’s joined by dancehall phenom Masicka on the album opener, Been There Before, and closes out the album with hard-hitting features from the multi-generational Jamaican talents Jesse Royal (Bridges) and Capleton (You Must Pay).

The reggae star previous album releases include Romain Virgo (2010), The System (2012), and Love Sick (2018), as well as several singles including his hits
Soul Provider, Stronger, Beautiful To Me, and Star Across The Sky.

His music has been streamed more than 57.2 million times on YouTube, 4.5 million times on Spotify, and 24.2 million streams on Pandora. He is ranked in the top 100 most popular artistes from Jamaica and receives radio play worldwide, including key markets such as the US, UK, Canada and the Caribbean.

In support of the album, Romain Virgo will perform throughout the north-east and south of the US in March, at several festivals across the Caribbean in April, and in Europe from June to August, including at Summerjam in Germany in July.
