Competitive-looking field for Harry Jaghai Memorial Trophy

A field of 12 runners are down to challenge for supremacy in the $1.05 million Harry Jaghai Memorial Trophy on tomorrow’s 10-race programme.

The maiden condition race for native-bred, three-year-olds will run over 6½ furlongs (1,300m) and will see three first-timers taking part  Paper Work, trained by Gary Subratie;
Pappie Don, trained by Saqlain Roman; and Captain Sparrow, trained by Anthony Nunes.

Below is an analysis of each runner.

1. ROCK-OLA: (3 ch c by Bold Conquest – Kitty Hawk) – A late non-starter at the races on February 24. Prior to that, Rock-Ola made his debut on August 26, 2023 where he finished fourth behind Lucky In The Sky, Himaya, and Indestructible over 3 furlongs (600m).
Rock-Ola has been working fairly well coming into the race, and should run accordingly.

2. PAPER WORK: (3 ch c by Sensational Slam – Abicadabby) – Has been putting in some good spins in the mornings leading up to her debut run.
Paper Work seems to have potential and so a favourable run is expected here.

3. BROWNIE BROWN: (3 ch f by Shackleville – Alienate) – Hasn’t done anything in four starts so far to earn a recommendation here. Note: Tongue-tie and figure-8 on.

4. PAPPIE DON: (3 b c by Sensational Slam – Sparkling Michaela) – In here for the experience.

5. THE SOUL WARRIOR: (3 gr/rn c by Storm Craft – Amanda Panda) – Showed signs of ability when finishing third by 3½ lengths behind King’s Crown over 5 furlongs (1,000m) round on February 17.
The Soul Warrior should run well once again.

6. SHANY STAR: (3 b f by Savoy Stomp – Gentle Officer) – Was all the rage on debut but finished fourth by 2 lengths behind Firecracker, Himaya, and Rachael Mannin over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m) on February 25.
Shany Star is expected to improve on that effort and ready to put in a winning run. Note: First-time Lasix.

7. RACK DEM: (3 gr f by Midnight Hawk – Cherokee Way) – Finished fifth by 8 lengths behind Nerissa’s Angel on debut over 5½ furlongs on February 25. Little or no improvement is expected from Rack Dem here.

8. BRENDA BOY: (3 b c by Savoy Stomp – Delightful Brenda) – Finished third in his two starts so far.
Brenda Boy has worked well coming into this race and could again finish in the top three.

9. DESIGN DIVA: (3 b f by Savoy Stomp – Tashara) – Is not expected to be among the top contenders here.

10. QUEEN VAUNA: (3 b f by Savoy Stomp – Trinket Box) – Cannot win this.

11. CAPTAIN SPARROW: (3 b c by Savoy Stomp – Rackam’s Mistress) – Nicely-bred colt who makes his well-anticipated debut here.
Captain Sparrow has being working really well for this race and with nothing outstanding in the line-up, she can get off the mark right away.

12. THE GENERAL: (3 b c by Northern Giant – Mamma Blossom) – Was expected to do much better than his sixth-placed finish by 25 lengths behind J Speith over 7½ furlongs (1,500m) on March 2. An improved effort is expected from
The General here.
