#Champs2024: Hydel’s Johnson tops Class 4 girls’ 100m prelims
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Hydel High’s Teixiera Johnson will lead the 24 competitors into Wednesday’s semi-final round of the Class 4 girls’ 100m at the 113th staging of the ISSA GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships.
Johnson clocked 12.36 seconds to claim the top spot in heat two. She won ahead of York Castle’s Micka-Lee James (12.61), Immaculate Conception High’s Aaliyah Brown (12.71), Holmwood Technical’s Devonnie Francis (12.81) and Manchester High’s Lennora Scarlett (12.98).
Meanwhile, gold medal favourite, Rihanna Scott of Ferncourt High, eased to a time of 12.52 seconds to take command of heat one. She was joined by Aaliyah Ross of Convent of Mercy Alpha (13.47) and St Mary Technical’s Dehjanae Stephens (13.24).
Edwin Allen High’s Tashana Godfrey blazed to 12.46 to win heat three, crossing the line ahead of St James High’s Shadae Gillette (13.00). Makaila McDonald, also of Edwin Allen, clocked 17.79 seconds to take heat four ahead of Tanecia Richards of Holmwood Technical (12.91)
Heat five and six’s Mick-Kayla Gardener of Wolmer’s Girls (12.92), Zwange Edwards of Mount Alvernia (13.25), Camperdown High’s Adriana Harris (13.15) and St Jago High’s Oneillia Grant (13.28) have advanced to the semis.
In heat seven, Jadeanne Patterson of Alphansus Davis (12.77), Chelsea-Ann Samuels of St Jago High (12.89), Mount Alvernia’s Veneisha Pottinger (13.01), Titchfield High’s Brehanna Salmon (13.02) and Shakay Spence of Denbigh High (13.28) booked their spots.
Corporate Area champion Jowana Pennant of St Andrew High School for Girls won the final heat in 12.93 seconds. She crossed the line ahead of Hydel High’s London Bell (13.01) and Tavia Hepburn of the Queen’s School (13.31).
The semi-finalists in the Class 4 girls’ 100m will face the starter at 5:15 pm.
