Nine-year-old JamalJames continues to win races after registering his second success from three starts this season on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

JamalJames’s win came in a three-year-old and upward Optional Claiming ($250,000 – $200,000) spread that also included six-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three) and native-bred five-year-olds (maiden) over 5 ½ furlongs.

Trained by Errol Subratie and ridden by leading jockey Tevin Foster, JamalJames was unable to go with the speedsters and had to settle in mid-pack early on.

Absolute Blue (Daniel Thompson) carried the field into the half-mile turn ahead of
Just An Illusion (Raddesh Roman), and Dancinginhebreeze (Marshall Porter).

Approaching the distance, JamalJames started to round horses to enter the stretch drive much closer to the leading pack.

Foster then asked JamalJames for a final effort, and the nine-year-old responded by blowing past horses inside the final stages of the race to win by 5 ¼ lengths.

Chiney Music (Samantha Fletcher) was second and Nuttin But Trouble (Rudolph Paige) third. The final time for the race was 1:12.2 (23.4 x 49.4).
