Three-day Grace Headley Cup semi-finals begin today
The semi-finals of the rural ISSA/Grace Headley Cup cricket competition will be played Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Defending and many-time champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), coached by former Jamaica wicketkeeper Carl Wright, will face former winners Manchester High School in one semi-final at the STETHS Sports Complex in Santa Cruz.
Last year’s beaten finalists May Day High School will be heavily favoured to overcome Clarendon College in the other semi-final at May Day High in Mandeville.
The Barry Barnes-coached Manchester High — playing on home soil in Mandeville — were the last to qualify for the final four after beating Tacky High School by 49 runs on March 25 and 26, in a twice-postponed group clash.
Manchester High’s captain Brian Barnes led the way with 55 as the home team was dismissed for 174 against Jordan Pinnock, four for 55 and Marlon Williams three for 44.
Bowling for Manchester High, Jahdae Moore did the bulk of the damage with three for 16 as Tacky High fell for 125.
The winner of the Headley Cup will face urban ISSA/Grace Shield champions Excelsior High in the all-island Spalding Cup.
The dates for the ISSA/Grace Headley Cup final as well as the Spalding Cup were yet to be finalised at press time.
