Bacchanal J’Ouvert paints enjoyment
Bacchanal J’Ouvert stayed true to its Paint Rave theme on Friday night into the early hours of Saturday morning as not one reveller left spotless by time the event ended.
Things kicked off inside Mas Camp at approximately 11:00 pm on Friday night with hundreds waiting eagerly for the paint and powder to start being distributed.
As they waited, entertainment was provided by Tyler and Fyahman, Brush1 and Franco, Back 2 Basics and Tony X, Nocturnal Dre Cyclone, Ovadose, Sinistar, and Patrick The Hypeman. Of course, the selections included modern and older soca jams, and a bit of dancehall and pop.
Some time after 3:00 am on Saturday headliners Fay-Ann Lyons and Bunji Garlin hit the stage to get the crowd rocking before the road march segment of the fête began.
Fay-Ann, who is popular for songs like Raze, Dive, and Upgrade, upped the ante when she inquired about the paint and powder and prompted that organisers let them loose.
At the end of their set, the venue was painted, and so too the patrons.
Although the night was long, the majority of the attendees opted to complete the road march, which ended at approximately 6:30 am.
Water trucks awaited the partygoers at Mas Camp to help relieve the task of washing the paint off their bodies.
Several revellers noted that the fête was a mere warm-up to what will occur on the road march today.
“I’m visiting from Miami, and it’s my first time jumping with this band. I think this party is a glimpse of what’s to come on Sunday and I’m excited,” Kacey Bryan told the Jamaica Observer.
Sean James, another attendee, said: “I’m so happy to be here! It’s amazing… the vibe, the people, the colours. I’m definitely coming back.”
