Man accused of killing St Ann cop fatally shot by police
ST ANN, Jamaica — The main suspect in the killing of a police constable in St Ann’s Bay, St Ann on Monday night was fatally shot by lawmen on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased is Siraldo Butler otherwise called ‘Siri’.
Police say that following the shooting death of Constable Ricardo Fairclough an operation was launched to apprehend Butler.
Lawmen say around 3:00 pm an operation was carried out in Snake Lane, Steer Town in the parish in search of Butler.
It is reported that during the process Butler allegedly engaged the lawmen in an armed confrontation and was fatally shot.
It follows last evening’s incident in which Constable Fairclough was on a section of Bravo Street in St Ann’s Bay when an armed man shot and injured a woman. Fairclough was alerted by the gunfire and went to assist the injured woman.
The gunman reportedly turned his weapon on Fairclough and shot him in the upper body before escaping. The injured policeman and the civilian were assisted to the hospital where Fairclough succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
