Man pleads guilty to ‘boxing’ common-law partner
KINGSTON, Jamaica— A man is set to return to court for sentencing after admitting to hitting his baby’s mother.
Allegations are that Romario Jones punched his child’s mother several times after accusing her of accepting money from a man overseas. The complainant is also his common-law partner.
A report was made to the police and he was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.
Jones pled guilty to the charge but clarified during proceedings at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday that he did not punch the complainant but “boxed” her.
“I didn’t punch her, Your Honour, I boxed her,” he told the court.
The prosecutor said he would accept the accused version of events.
Presiding Judge Carlo Mason then asked Jones “A suh you deal with your baby mother?”
To which Jones responded, “It was a mistake, Your Honour.”
Jones’ bail was extended and he will return to court on July 4, for sentencing.
