What a thought! What a blessing! The Father appointed me to work with the poor, what a vocation! His Son, Jesus, asked me to be His brother and to be brother to all the poor.

Son, behold thy brothers who are my brothers? The Good Samaritan beheld the beaten man left in the street to die. That is me. I am so privileged. I am so blessed to have that vocation to take into my house the forgotten one left on the street to die.

I attended St George’s College where I met some amazing priests, some amazing teachers, and some amazing fellow students. I was invited by the St George’s Alumni Association in Toronto and gave a short talk for 10 minutes. I was amazed that everyone rose and gave me a thunderous applause. Why? What have I done? Here they were, all these professional men with their glamorous wives at this glamorous affair at the Crystal Palace in Toronto. Why did Keith Lowe and Dennis Hosang pay my plane fare and also Brother Ryan’s plane fare?

We are poor, simple men, we live in Jamaica in the ghettos with the forgotten ones. The only answer I could think of is Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! Jesus in the heart of this alumni. They appreciated us not as accomplished men but as servants of Christ and the poor; Christ, who said I am here to bring good news to the forgotten ones. I pray, I think, I reflect:

• I belong to Christ.

• I belong to Jamaica.

• I belong to the poor and the ghettos.

• I minister to black people in Haiti, Kenya, Uganda, and Jamaica.

• I was born in Jamaica and I will die in Jamaica.

• I am a Chinese Asian by race, though I am a Jamaican national.

• I am glad to be Asian by blood and by race.

• I am Chinese and I am Hakka.

• I was born Buddhist and developed as a Christian.

• I became a Jesuit and developed to being a Missionary of the Poor.

• I was captivated and enraptured by Christ, the Son of the one true living God.

I loved His works with the poor and sinners, I wanted to be like Him, full of love and compassion. I wanted to die and rise with Him into eternal life. I wanted to help the poor people to get to heaven. They have nothing on Earth, I wanted them to have the riches of Heaven, but I am a sinner, a poor, poor sinner who begs Christ more than three times to remove the thorn in my flesh. Though I am a sinner, Christ loves and forgives me.

If I go the way of the world, I would lose my soul and so I cling to Christ. My brothers and sisters, what does it matter if I gain the whole world and suffer the loss of my soul?

How will I live? How long will you live? We cannot live a minute, an hour, and a day longer than what God intends. And what, when it’s all over? What? Heaven or hell, that is the only option we have.
