Haven Beauty House creates a space for wellness and self-care
WITH less than a full year of operation under its belt Haven Beauty House is already seeking to become a powerhouse in the local health and wellness sector as it aesthetically and therapeutically curates a space for beauty and self-care.
Opened in November of last year, the six-month-old company located inside the 76 RHR (Red Hills Road) Business Centre in St Andrew is a beauty space which houses a nail salon, beauty supplies store, and which also provides a number of private services such as lashes, massages, facials, waxing and other body enhancement activities.
Services at the company are currently administered by a competent eight-member staff comprising two spa managers, three nail technicians, as well as a pedicurist, beauty therapist, and aesthetician/registered nurse.
Sharing her reason for starting the business, Managing Director Stefani Dewar told the
Jamaica Observer that its genesis is rooted in number of factors.
“Haven Beauty House was started for three main reasons of which, firstly, I was inspired by how women have used the beauty industry to excel and grow — quickly learning new trends and techniques despite having to keep up with the evolving trends and growing self-care needs.
“I also noticed, from partaking in these services myself, that some of the spaces available in Jamaica are not properly designed, with many having little to no emphasis being placed on the environment. With my background in architecture and interior design it was therefore easy for me to create a space reflective of a certain ambience that I wanted my clients to feel on entering the space. Lastly, as a woman that has faced significant challenges with accessing all my services in one place, I wanted to create a space in which all beauty needs could be met,” she said while pointing to the company’s mission which seeks to offer the most exclusive experience for all self-care and wellness treatments locally.
Already basking in a more than 75 per cent growth in earnings since opening, the demand for the services offered by Haven Beauty House as well as customer feedback to date continues to be overwhelmingly positive, the entrepreneur said.
“Our greatest achievement to date has been the daily reactions we get from clients about the environment, the service, and our customer service. We have garnered so many outstanding reviews, which serves as a testament to how badly the space was needed in Kingston. What we have found is that clients who have been going to some other spaces in the last few years have now become loyal customers, making Haven Beauty House their new one-stop shop — with most consistently book for services every three weeks,” she noted.
“All the services we offer currently are pretty standard but we aim to offer them at the highest quality. Right now persons are intrigued by our IV vitamin shots, which is administered by our in-house aesthetician, as well as our micro-blading service which is basically a semi-permanent make-up solution,” she said in highlighting some of the most sought after services.
“As we plan to get into more cosmetic procedures, like Botox and fillers, we are now working to optimise the delivery of some of our standard services so that we can effectively build on these,” she added.
With the beauty house now attracting a mix of young professionals and older clients from all over Kingston and some parts of St Catherine, as well as members of the Diaspora, she said the future of the business continues to be promising. Heavily utilising social media and other digital channels to push its marketing and promotional campaigns, the company now aims to expand its client base as it positions to add new locations and increase its share of the lucrative market. According to the Global Spa and Wellness Summit, the size of the health and wellness sector globally is said to be worth US$438.6 billion.
“In the next three to five years my hope if for this location to spring forth more spaces in Portmore, Ocho Rios, as we spread the opportunity to deliver top-class, quality self-care. A well-curated product line is also something I would be very excited about getting into,” Dewar said of the outlook.
“Additionally, my vision and plan for Haven Beauty House is for it to evolve with each passing day — mirroring some of the most internationally recognised beauty standards as its offers Jamaicans First World options here at home. This, while we also celebrate and develop local talent, pouring into team members in ways that benefit them both professionally and personally. I have found that most people in the beauty industry prefer to work for themselves, having been scarred by previous employers, so there is some hesitation for them to come and work for a company — and we want to change that,” she stated.
