Shericka Jackson opens season with 100m win
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Shericka Jackson opened her 2024 competitive season with a 100m win at a Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) All Comers meet at the National Stadium on Saturday.
The two-time 200m world champion ran 11.03 seconds (1.8m/s) to beat training partner Tina Clayton (11.20), Krystal Sloley of UTech (11.25), Kemba Nelson (11.30) and Natasha Morrison (11.32).
Julian Forte opened his outdoor season, running 10.07 seconds (1.5m/s) to win the men’s 100m. Earl Simmonds was second in a wind-aided 10.15 (2.1m/s), Jazeel Murphy was third with 10.20 (1.2m/s) and Oshane Bailey followed in fourth with 10.22 (1.2m/s).
Herbert Morrison Technical schoolboy Deandre Daley ran a wind-aided 10.23 (2.1m/s) just ahead of Tyquendo Tracey (10.24).
Earlier in the day, Murphy won the men’s 200m in 20.67 (1.3m/s) ahead of Dynamic Speed TC teammate Ashanie Smith (20.93) with Michael Sharpe of SprinTec third in 21.09.
World Champion Antonio Watson ran 46.75 to win the men’s 400m, finishing ahead of Terry Thomas (47.50) and Demar Murray (47.90).
Traves Smikle won the men’s discus throw with 66.03m, ahead of Chad Wright (62.98m) and Tio-Josh Mowatt (52.76m).
Orlando Bennett won the 110m hurdles with 13.67 (0.9m/s) ahead of Odario Phillips (13.71) and Andre Harris (13.78).
