JCDC hosts parish excellence awards
Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) will honour the top performers of this year’s Festival of the Performing Arts Competition through a series of excellence awards ceremonies coordinated in each parish.
Onstage were some outstanding performances from the season with special recognition going to top participants, trainers, institutions, and sponsors.
Marjorie Leyden-Kirton, director of Community Cultural Development Services Division at JCDC, underscored the importance of recognition and motivation in boosting creatives.
“The excellence awards ceremonies are a crucial aspect of the JCDC’s approach to ensuring participants feel valued and inspired,” she explained. “Through them we celebrate excellence at the grass roots level, recognizing that this is where the journey begins for many aspiring artistes.”
Three parishes have already hosted their events — St Thomas on May 1, Kingston and St Andrew on May 2, and St Catherine on May 7.
