Cop charged with murder of 53-y-o farmer
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — A 30-year-old policeman has been formally charged for the 2022 murder of a 53-year-old farmer in St Elizabeth.
Charged is Lakarie Barrett, a police officer from Franklin Town in Kingston. In addition to the murder charge, Barrett was also slapped with five counts of wounding with intent in connection with an incident in Accompong Town, St Elizabeth on Thursday, January 6, 2022.
Reports from the Black River police are that about 9:30 pm, Barrett was at an event in the area when a fight developed between two men. Barrett intervened and was attacked by a group of people. It is alleged that Barrett opened gunfire at the crowd killing the farmer, Lloyd Davis, and injuring five others.
An investigation commenced and Barrett was subsequently charged.
A court date for him is being finalised.
