Gramps Morgan partners with The Eternal Fathers Awards

KINGSTON, Jamaica— Reggae artiste Gramps Morgan has partnered with The Eternal Fathers Awards, an annual awards show which recognises Jamaican men who consistently set a good example for their children and communities.

The partnership was announced in a news release on Tuesday, welcoming Morgan, who has had major successes with the Grammy Award winning band Morgan Heritage, and as a solo artiste.

The Eternal Fathers Awards believes that with his influence, Morgan is poised to amplify the message of the need to change the narrative around Jamaican fathers.

“I am honoured to partner with The Eternal Father Awards, a platform that recognises and celebrates fathers who selflessly provide for their families and contribute to the betterment of Jamaica. Music has the power to inspire positive change, and I am excited to use my voice to support this incredible initiative,” Morgan said.

Anna Smith, founder of The Eternal Father Awards, also shared her excitement about the collaboration.

“Gramps Morgan is not only a musical legend but also a true advocate for social change. His ‘heritage’ is one where his father was a strong family figure that highlighted the value of a father’s leadership and passed on the importance of community and having a social conscience. With such a strong legacy as his background, his involvement will undoubtedly inspire Jamaican fathers to evolve, and encourage our society to give them the space to become better fathers,” she said.

The Eternal Fathers Awards was created in 2022 to honour adopted fathers, stepfathers, biological fathers, and community father figures who may be underrated but have a strong sense of self-leadership.

To be awarded, the public can nominate their fathers or a great father they know for the categories of:

  1. Marcus Garvey Award for Community Leadership/The Community Hero
  2. Sam Sharpe Award for Exemplary Fathers of Children with a Disability
  3. Sam Sharpe Award for Exemplary Fathers with a Disability
  4. Paul Bogle Award for Mentorship/Development of Young Men
  5. Ashley Smith Award for Religious Service
  6. Best Fatherhood Moment Captured by Photograph
  7. Best Fatherhood Moment Captured on Video
  8. Parish Champion Father

People interested in making a nomination must create a compelling video no longer that three minutes on why they consider their dad to be a great father, and why he deserves an award. The videos should be submitted online through the Eternal Fathers Awards website, where they will be judged.

“Outside of nominations, the Awards annually presents the Plaque of the Nation’s Compassion to two fathers who have lost their children in tragic circumstances,” the release said.

Nominations remain open until Saturday, June 8. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held on Father’s Day, June 16, in Kingston.
