Sita Lyrical gets taste of Dutty Money rhythm
Dancehall artiste Sita Lyrical has got a big break with her Dutty Money Freestyle.
The freestyle — which was voiced on Rvssian’s Dutty Money rhythm after he invited talented acts to share their lyricism on the popular beat — has got the entertainer a surplus in notoriety.
“I’ve performed overseas before, so that’s nothing new to me. But having Jamaicans recognise me, and not just hear my voice, but actually put a face to the voice, I would say that’s my biggest accomplishment,” the Vincentian artiste told the Jamaica Observer.
“I did a medley of songs for Viral JA and that [ Dutty Money Freestyle] was included in the medley, and people just started running with it. My manager, Ricky Bless, and I decided to make it an official release being that people were already interacting with it,” she continued.
The track was officially released on May 24.
Music producer Tarik “Rvssian” Johnston rebranded the Dutty Money rhythm earlier this year to give newer and more seasoned artistes an opportunity to show off their talent on what was originally called the
GoGo Club rhythm.
Although Sita Lyrical was not born in Jamaica, she still understands the significance of the project.
“Every song on the rhythm [back then] was a hit, or at least known. It promoted music from Vybz Kartel, Demarco, Konshens, and everybody who was popular at the time, and some who are still very relevant now. For the rhythm to be that popular, and then come back and cater to the younger generation and still be popular, I think it really plays a significant part in the dancehall industry,” she said.
Sita Lyrical made her début at Sting in December 2022. She is known for other tracks such as Sick, Same Mouth, Deep and Dark, and Knack. She released her first EP titled Amplified Emotions last May.
Sita Lyrical had hopes of collaborating with Vybz Kartel.
“I think he’s one of the most talented dancehall artistes. I also like the way he wrote for the female artistes back then. It was as if he put himself in the eyes of a female to see how they would react to certain things. So, I think that a collaboration with him would be very helpful,” she said.
She is currently booked for shows across the island for the next several months.
