PORTLAND, Jamaica — Minister of Energy Daryl Vaz has indicated that sections of Portland, which have been without electricity and water since Wednesday, should see services restored by Monday.

In a release over the weekend, it was revealed that, based on the latest report from the Jamaica Public Service, the main transmission line from Hector’s River to Folly was fixed on Saturday and should be energised on Sunday. This means the main corridor and surrounding communities will receive electricity shortly. Reconnections are expected to continue throughout the week.

The release also noted that the other transmission line from Dover to Port Antonio should be energised on Monday, restoring connection to the main and linked feeds. Repairs will also start on those damaged areas.

The parish has been without utilities since the passage of Hurricane Beryl on Wednesday.

According to the release, the Grants Level water pump, as well as the Charles Town Station, will also have power restored, allowing water service to return.
