Ethiopian-based recording artiste EvaRed has made a name for himself with the release of his first reggae track,
No Capping.

The singer, who is in Jamaica for the first time, explained that Ethiopia does not have a lot of reggae tracks in English, so he has distinguished himself with the project.

“The response has been good. This is also because we made an amazing music video for the song, and the standard of music videos in Ethiopia is not so high, so it has stood out.

“When it comes to reggae music, there’s not a lot of English, because there aren’t a lot of English speakers in Ethiopia. It has been nice for the audience to hear real reggae. Many reggae artistes sing about the country, but there’s not a lot of reggae music coming from Ethiopia,” the singer, whose real name is Pascal Damir Kovarbasic, told the Jamaica Observer.

The artiste independently produced No Capping, which was released on April 27.

EvaRed began his musical journey back in 2009 as a DJ back in Europe, captivating international audiences from Germany and Norway, soon all the way to Ethiopia and Kenya.

He played for renowned sound systems, including Caplock-Sound and Buschwerk Bouncesystem, and participated in studio sessions with prominent artistes such as Kymani Marley and Anthony B, among others.

His transition from being a disc jokey and producing to an artiste was driven by a desire to create deeper, more personal music. This ambition was realised with the release of his début EP, Queen of Sheba, in 2022.

He is currently on the island to form deeper connections while working on two other reggae tracks to add to his catalogue.

“I love modern reggae music… The way how Jamaican artistes, especially, use many words and put a nice flow and melody to it, I love it. I’m a big fan of it,” he said.
