FNID & Jamaica customs make major gun and ammo seizure
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A joint operation between the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) and the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) Contraband Enforcement Team resulted in the seizure of a large cache of firearms, component parts, and ammunition at a Kingston wharf, on Wednesday.
The shipment, which originated from the United States, involved five barrels that were declared as containing grocery and clothing items. However, upon inspection, they were found to contain a large quantity of illegal firearms and ammunition, to include three fully assembled firearms and various component parts such as pistol slides, rifle barrels, andmagazines.
Preliminary assessment revealed that the component parts can assemble and additional 39 pistols and one rifle.
Additionally, assorted ammunition, totaling 2,819 rounds, was also discovered among the seized items.
According to Head of the FNID, Senior Superintendent of Police Samuel Blake, this seizure is a significant blow to criminal organisations operating in Jamaica.
“This find is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team and demonstrates the effectiveness of collaboration between local law enforcement agencies in disrupting the flow of illegal firearms and ammunition into our country. It comes at a critical time, just before the Christmas season. We’re committed to keeping our communities safe, and this seizure is a significant step in that direction,” he stated.
“The investigation into the seizure is ongoing. FNID continues to work with our local and international law enforcement agencies to identify those responsible for the illicit shipment.”
