Education Ministry probes payroll delays at Bethel Primary
The Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information says it is investigating issues affecting payroll processing for auxiliary staff at Bethel Primary School.
In a release Friday, the ministry said it aims to identify and resolve the root cause of the delays before the next pay cycle. The ministry says it understands the frustration caused by payroll discrepancies and it is working to address these concerns promptly and effectively.
As part of ongoing improvements in service delivery, the ministry said it is transitioning to the Government initiated system, MyHR Plus, a new platform that it said will allow for electronic HR processing, eliminating the need to transport physical files across the country, remote claims submission which ensures faster and more accurate processing of payments, processing of leave, e-payslips, job letters among other benefits. Full migration to MyHR Plus is expected by March 2025.
Permanent secretary within the ministry, Kasan Troupe, stated: “We understand and regret the impact these delays have on our staff and are committed to resolving them. Since the Ministry’s transition to the Government’s MyHR Plus system, we have successfully onboarded and are paying almost 17,500 teachers and over 8,000 non-academic school and ministry staff members. We are the largest users of the system in the Government and as we transition to this new process challenges may arise, however, we are resolved to address these forthwith.
“We appreciate the patience of affected staff as we work to ensure timely and accurate payments,” she added.
