Week.day, Valiant release Grimey collab
Popular producer Week.day has teamed up with dancehall artiste Valiant for the artiste’s first release of the year, titled Grimey.
The song and accompanying music video were released on Saturday, January 11. It was directed by Damaniac Visualz.
“This will be my first official release with him [Valiant] as a producer, but I’ve done work with him before. I previously mixed and mastered a track with Valiant and 450 called Faith,” the producer told the Jamaica Observer.
Noting that the track took approximately three weeks to be completed — from the recording to the mixing and mastering and shooting the music video — Week.day said that he is certain it will resonate because of its relatability.
“The song is mainly about focusing on your goals and trying to get to what’s important without selling your soul, reflecting on your journey and how far you’ve come, protecting yourself in the streets once you’ve achieved all that you’ve set out to achieve. Believing in yourself and knowing that you can do anything you put your mind to,” he explained.
Week.day is credited for works with other artistes such Wild N Rich, Imperfections, Roses, and What If by 450 and Thug Loving and Most Wanted by Alkaline.
The producer, who hails from Linstead in St Catherine, studied jazz and popular music at Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. He grew up with a musician father and as the younger brother of producer Jahvy Ambassador.
In just seven years he has developed a track record of hits that he credits to a simple formula.
“My recipe for success is, you always have to be working, so when the opportunities come your way you’re already prepared. I’m always making beats from all different genres; so it doesn’t matter where in the world I go, I’ll always have a beat to play for an artiste of any genre. So work smart and [remember] God. I always pray as soon as I wake up and right before I fall asleep,” Week.day said.
He also said 2025 is readying to be a productive and fruitful year.
“I’m currently working on new tracks with a lot of different artistes, both internationally and locally. You can look forward to more music from Valiant and Week.day this year. I’m also working on 450’s album; I have a lot of great works on there, so there’ll be plenty of new music coming soon,” he said.
