Porsche electric 2025

Specially invited guests were treated to an advanced showing of the 2025 all-new, all-electric vehicles Macan and Taycan on Wednesday, January 22 at the AC Innovation Centre, AC Hotel Kingston, by ATL Motorsports, the arm of the ATL Automotive Group responsible for the Porsche brand of vehicles.

“These vehicles represent Porsche’s commitment to advancing sustainable mobility worldwide, while still providing the luxurious bespoke driving experience the brand is known for,” said Damien Kerr, general manager – Oxford Road.

The Macan Electric was launched to the Caribbean and Latin American markets in Mexico City, Mexico, in November 2024. For its second generation, the Macan moves to an all-electric platform dubbed Porsche’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE). It’s the first vehicle on PPE and joins the Taycan as the second battery electric vehicle (BEV) from the brand.

“We will be carrying all four trims of the Macan Electric,” said Uche McLean, head of business, Porsche Jamaica, as he told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine about the importance of the Macan to the brand as a compact SUV in the luxury segment.

Those four trim levels are the standard Macan Electric, which is rear-wheel drive only, followed by the trio of all-wheel drive models of increasing performance, the Macan 4, 4S, and then the Macan Turbo. Horsepower ranges from 360bhp to up to 639bhp. The driving range is rated from 590 kilometres to 641 kilometres based on the vehicle trim level and tyre options. PPE uses an 800-volt architecture, allowing it to handle charging speeds as high as 270kWh. AC charging is 11kWh. The Macan’s 100kWh battery can be charged to 80 per cent as quickly as 21 minutes, with 270 kilometres of range accessible in 10 minutes.

Style-wise, the Macan moves on with an all-new appearance, retaining various elements such as the Porsche flyline, updated 3D taillights, and the customisable side blades. The most obvious change is the split front lighting package, which can be used to denote the Turbo model from the other three trim levels. Despite retaining close to its original dimensions, the all-electric platform gives the Macan a larger wheelbase. This means a larger cabin and cargo volume, including a frunk.

Highlights of the new technology on the Macan are rear-axle steering, a 10.9-inch passenger display, and a head-up display with augmented reality technology.

The Taycan hit local shores in September 2023. For 2025 the front and rear have been redesigned for an even more attractive design. The new car is lighter, even with more extensive standard equipment. On-road and electric performance have also increased. Driving range is now up to 35 per cent with a maximum rating of 678km dependent on the model variant. Charging speed is now 50kWh higher at 320kWh. Software improvements allow the Taycan to charge even faster despite a larger battery. Further optimising efficiency are aerodynamically optimised wheels and reduced-rolling-resistance tyres.

All vehicles come with a home charger as installed by Solar Buzz Jamaica.

The Macan Electric and Taycan will make their public debut at a special event to be held at the Kingston Polo Club, Caymanas, St Catherine, this coming Sunday, January 26.

The 2025 Porsche Macan Electric is an all-new design that retains prominent elements from its past and that of Porsche.Rory Daley
