Geolithic shines with front-running victory

Geolithic, in a show of speed and endurance, led from gate to wire to capture the $1.25-million Bonnie Blue Flag Trophy feature over seven and half furlongs (1,500m) at Caymanas Park on Sunday.

Trained by Peter-John Parsard, the five-year-old American-bred bay mare Geolithic dominated the Restricted Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and, winning by a length and a quarter in a slick 1:34.0 (23.2 x 46.1 x 1:13.0 x 1:27.0).

With Panamanian jockey Ismael Velasquez aboard, Geolithic exploded out of the starting gates, taking the lead and never relinquishing it. She’s A Godgift (Javaniel Patterson), Eazy Peazy (Demar Williams), and
Awesome Anthony (Raddesh Roman) gave chase, but Geolithic maintained a comfortable advantage down the backstretch.

Although tiring slightly in the final stages, Geolithic held on for the win, with She’s A Godgift finishing strongly for second place ahead of Super Alex (Dick Cardenas).

Trainer Gary Subratie and champion jockey Raddesh Roman each scored two winners on the nine-race card.

Subratie’s duo of winners included Linstead Market, ridden by Emelio McLean in the third race, and
Sensational Soul, who romped home with Roman in the saddle in the seventh race.

Roman’s other winner was aboard Brenda Boy in the second race for trainer Victor Williams.

Racing continues on Saturday.
