Racing beat Chapelton for club record fourth straight win
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Racing United won a club record fourth straight game in the Jamaica Premier League on Sunday, beating Chapelton Maroons 2-1 in the first game of a double header at Drewsland.
The win saw Racing bolt up the points tables and into seventh place on 28 points, one ahead of Tivoli Gardens who have a game in hand and will play on Monday.
It was upsets galore on Sunday with both leaders Mt Pleasant and Montego Bay United getting upset by Harbour View and Dunbeholden FC respectively while Portmore came from behind to edge Humble Lion.
In the clash between the two promoted teams at Drewsland, Roshane Myrie scored in the 56th minute to give Racing the lead but Daniel Watson levelled the scores for Chapelton in the 58th minute. Nickyle Ellis however got the winner for Racing, scoring his fourth goal of the season in the 80th minute.
Dunbeholden scored back-to-back wins, blanking MBU 2-0 to avenge their first round loss, both goals coming late. Dean Andre Thomas got the first in the 80th minute and Dwight Merrick scored the second in the 85th minute from the penalty spot.
Mt Pleasant’s record 12-game winning run came to a halt as they were beaten 2-1 by Harbour View, their first loss since late October last year. Rohan Brown gave Harbour View the lead after just seven minutes and Oquassa Chong doubled the advantage in the 43rd minute while Daniel Green pulled a goal back deep into stoppage time.
Humble Lion seem well on their way to beating Portmore United, leading from the 35th minute through Cleo Clarke who was returning from an injury lay off. Shacquwell Henry however equalised for Portmore in the 76th minute before Orlando Russell headed home the winner in the 88th minute.
Waterhouse FC came back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw at home against Molynes United, ending a two-game losing skid. Jason Wright, who was a second half substitute, gave Molynes the lead in the 80th minute but Atapharoy Bygrave scored in the 89th minute to rescue a point for Waterhouse.
