The High Commission of India in Kingston celebrated India’s 76th Republic Day on January 26, 2025, with a flag-unfurling ceremony and cultural performances. The event was attended by around 150 members of the Indian community and friends of India in Jamaica, as well as Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, Jamaica’s minister of foreign affairs and foreign trade.
High Commissioner Mayank Joshi highlighted India’s progress over 75 years and its vision for becoming a developed economy by 2047. He also emphasised ongoing collaborations between India and Jamaica in areas such as healthcare, education, and digital infrastructure.
The celebration marked 62 years of bilateral relations between India and Jamaica, which have spanned diverse areas like culture, sports, and renewable energy. It also highlighted significant milestones, including Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness’s historic visit to India in 2024 and the signing of agreements to enhance bilateral cooperation.
