Chino readies reggae albumProject release expected March
Daniel “Chino” McGregor is getting ready to release a project he says will showcase a side of him many listeners haven’t got to experience much throughout his career.
The multitalented entertainer said he will be embracing his inner vocalist on the project to be released in March and signposted that fans should be prepared to be mesmerised.
“I have a reggae album on the way and it will be pure, authentic reggae. I realised that over the past couple of years when I do shows, like when I did Sumfest in 2023, a lot of my fans, especially here in Jamaica, they’re kinda shocked. I see the comments saying, ‘Chino do vocal lessons,’ because it’s like they didn’t know I can sing. So you’ll be getting a lot of that on this project,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Outlining that as the son of a veteran reggae singer his approach to music is unique, Chino said more than anything he wants his catalogue to strike the balance between ‘old-school music’ and that being produced by younger acts.
“I’d love to believe that my approach to music bridges the gap perfectly between the authentic, old-school energy while still making the music hip and fresh for the current audience, and so the album will be a balance of message music and you know for sure we can’t leave out the ladies, so we have some lovers’ tune on there too,” he said. “It will be fun and, hopefully, that will inspire more artistes to try and strike that balance.”
The entertainer says the project is slated to have at least 12 tracks and will have some surprise collaborations.
“We’re shooting for 12-15 tracks. The first single will be released in a matter of weeks. I came to Jamaica to do some post-production and shoot the visuals for the first single. It’s a song called Without Apology, so fans can look out for that,” he shared.
Chino continued: “As far as collaborations, I’m going to be kind of tight-lipped about that. Both artistes collaboration and production collaborations will be special. We’re going to have some very special things happening there.”
