JRA shooters deliver strong performances in Florida
The Jamaica Rifle Association’s (JRA) 40-member pistol team, which included match officials, travelled to Velousia County shooting range in Florida this past week and competed in the USA Extreme Open Handgun competition.
The Jamaicans, who had the largest contingent outside of the the host country, continue to prepare for the World’s Shoot in Matlosana, South Africa, later this year.
When a ceasefire was called for all 315 competitors on Saturday afternoon, Andrew Yap finished big with third place in the Open Division, which saw some of the fiercest competitive action among some of the best in the world.
Ryan Bramwell, fresh from a Latin American Championship win, was again in the middle of the podium with a first-place finish in the Production Optics Senior category. Bramwell also copped a President’s Medal with the win and he was followed closely by Robin Rickhi and Christopher Nunez, who were sixth and seventh, respectively.
In the meantime Darren Richards, who was fifth in Argentina last year, finished an impressive fourth place in the Standard Overall division.
Meanwhile Yeonie Campbell and Renee Rickhi, two of the three ladies, who travelled with the team, finished second and fifth, respectively, in the ladies’ category of the Production Optics division.
The JRA team will now turn their focus to the Panama Open Handgun Championships in Panama in late March and continue their preparation for the keenly contested JRA National Grand Prix series that began in January.
