Reggae Boyz edge T&T in first of two friendlies
ST JAMES, Jamaica – Sue-Lae McCalla’s maiden international goal gave Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz a 1-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in the first game of their two-game friendly series.
McCalla, who was playing his fourth game for the Jamaican men’s senior national team, all of them against T&T, pounced on a pass from Shaniel Thomas and calmly slotted home past substitute goal keeper Aaron Enill in the 84th minute.
The win extended Jamaica’s unbeaten run against the Soca Warriors to five games and was their first win at home against Trinidad since 2014.
Jamaica had most of the scoring chances in the game and Jamaica Premier League top scorer Warner Brown, who was one of four debutants named in Steve McClaren’s starting team, had two shots saved in the first half.
Trinidad had good opportunities late in the first half, when a cross from the left wing sailed across the face of the Jamaican goal, and early in the second half when substitute Brent Sam headed a ball over the cross bar from close range.
Jamaica came close to opening the scoring in the 71st minute when a cross from Kyle Ming beat two onrushing Reggae Boyz. However, McCalla was well placed to make full use of a flicked pass from Thomas and gave the Boyz a deserved win.
