Ackera Nugent to face top sprint hurdlers in 60m event at Millrose Games
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Olympic Games and World Championships finalist Ackera Nugent will line up against the top women sprint hurdlers in the world in the women’s 60m hurdles at Saturday’s final day of the Millrose Games at the Armory in New York.
Three Jamaicans are down to take part in the meet with Natoya Goule-Toppin lined up in the women’s 800m and Leah Anderson in the women’s 400m.
Nugent, who opened her indoor season running 7.92 seconds at a meet in Boston last weekend, will face off against the top four women in the world so far.
Denisha Cartwright of the Bahamas leads with 7.78 seconds, American Masai Russell is next with 7.80 seconds, her teammate Grace Stark is number three on the World Athletics rankings with 7.81 seconds and World Indoor champion Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas has a best of 7.85 seconds.
Goule-Toppin will run her first 800m of the season and go up against world leader Shafiqua Maloney of St Vincent and the Grenadines and Americans Sammy Watson, Olivia Baker and Sage Hurta-Klecker.
Meanwhile, Leah Anderson will face major competition in the women’s 400m from Belgium’s Helena Ponette as well as Americans Alexis Holmes, Meghan Hunter and Jan’Taijah Jones.
