As a musician, Wormbass has backed dancehall music’s elite artistes including Beenie Man and Sanchez. On stage, he recreated some of the genre’s biggest rhythms.

The lanky bassist has recorded on quite a few ‘riddims’ as an artiste, the latest being Holy Mountain on which he does Am A Lion for East Vibration Records, a company operated by producer Ernie Lowe.
He sees recording on a hot beat with multiple artistes as beneficial.

“Music is a battlefield and when sharing a riddim with other artistes, it really does inspire a competitive spirit in you as the artiste. You are sharing a musical space with many talented artistes, inspiring you to want to create the best music you can,” said Wormbass.

Am A Lion is his first released song for 2025. Last year was relatively quiet by Wormbass standards, as he released only two singles — Sunshine and Illusion.

This year, in addition to increasing his releases, he plans to perform those songs live. While establishing himself as an artiste has been a priority in recent years, nothing beats performing on stage.

“Performances always bring one profound feeling to I. When I share a soundscape with my audience the feeling of true connectedness is always present. This is a very energising feeling, it inspires you to want to use your craft to search out the depths of the heart,” Wormbass stated.

Born Delroy Nevin in St Thomas, Wormbass started his career as a bassist in the 1980s. He came to national prominence during the 1990s with Blaze, which was arguably the hottest show band of that decade, touring mainly with Beenie Man.

In recent years, Wormbass has toured with roots acts Winston McAnuff and Inna De Yard.
