Chef slapped with charges from 2024 Duhaney Park shooting that killed higgler
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A chef has been charged in connection with a shooting incident that occurred last year at the Duhaney Park Recreational Park in St Andrew, which led to the death of a higgler.
Akeem Copeland, 27, of Scarlett Road in Spanish Town, St Catherine, and Riverside Drive in New Haven, St Andrew has been charged with the murder of 34-year-old Lishaun Swaby otherwise called “Flava” also from New Haven.
Copeland faces additional charges of wounding with intent, assault at common law, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of prohibited ammunition, using a firearm to commit a felony, conspiracy to murder, and conspiracy to wound with intent.
Reports are that on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at around 9:25 am, an armed man opened fire on individuals at the park. During the attack, Swaby was shot multiple times and later succumbed to his injuries at the Kingston Public Hospital.
A female victim was also shot but survived. A police officer who was nearby and responded to the incident was also fired at by the attacker but was not injured.
Copeland was later arrested and charged.
