ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – Deputy Superintendent of Police, Gary Chambers was today found not guilty of sexually assaulting a female corporal of police in the Spanish Town Parish Court.

The trial of 52-year-old Chambers ended Thursday after his lawyer, Peter Champagnie KC, delivered his closing address.

The prosecution had presented evidence in which it was said that Chambers had attempted to fondle the female corporal of police while in a service vehicle on October 22, 2016.

Following a ruling from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Chambers was charged.

He vehemently denied the allegations and had claimed that they arose only after it became known to the corporal that he did not support her request for promotion.

Champagnie, in presenting the case for Chambers, brought to light several inconsistencies in the corporal’s testimony.

Chief amongst them was the fact the corporal’s claim that Chambers had apologised for his action at a mediation meeting was not supported by an independent witness at said meeting.

It was suggested that the corporal only sought to make a report after she learnt that Chambers was planning to sue her for defamation of character.

Chambers was also represented by attorney Richard Lynch who appeared with Champagnie.
