Joong Supermarket closed by health department
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – The St Catherine Health Department has closed down Portmore-based Joong Supermarket & Wholesale.
A notice from the South East Regional Health Authority (SEHRA) indicated that the facility had breached the Public Health (food handling) regulations.
The regulations cover food establishments from restaurants to canteens and govern cleanliness, record keeping, licences and more regarding the preparation of food for public consumption.
Constructed on 3.5 acres of land in New Lands, Portmore, Joong Supermarket has been supplying the community with grocery items for over 15 years. It employs dozens of individuals from the surrounding area.
The facility is to remain closed until further notice.
