Rain denies Manchester victory vs May Day in Grace Headley Cup

Roberts century powers Clarendon past Glenmuir

Defending champions Manchester High were within one wicket of defeating May Day High when rain and bad light had the final say, forcing a drawn result, in last week’s round of games in the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association/Grace Headley Cup.

At Manchester High, the hosts were struggling at 143 for nine batting first before the last pair of Jadea Moore, made an unbeaten 52, and Kelon Jones, 22 not out, shared a 10th-wicket stand of 74 to ensure their team’s declaration at 217 for nine.

May Day’s off spinner Daniel McClymont, who took five for 52, and seamer Mark Barrett (3-50), led the fight for the visitors.

May Day seemed doomed at 39 for nine when the weather intervened.

Rushawn Mckenzie, with 4-14, off spinner Barrington Simpson (3-8) and Rasheed Harriott (2-5) were leading Manchester’s charge at that point.

At Sir P Oval, Vere Technical High beat Garvey Maceo High by nine wickets.

Batting first Garvey Maceo High were dismissed for 77 as Vere Technical’s Talbert Wallace took 4-18.

Vere Technical replied with 81 for the loss of one wicket. Deshaun Smith, 46 not out, and Rahjay Mitchell, 28 not out, carried Vere over the line.

At Claude McKay High, the hosts beat Alphansus Davis High by four wickets.

Alphansus Davis High made 93 all out against Zenedine Campbell (5-22) and Ojaun Nelson (3-27).

Claude McKay High achieved victory at 95-6.

At Cambridge High School, Cambridge High beat Green Pond High by five wickets.

Orvel Miller scored 52 in Green Pond’s 163 all out, against Desron Dunn’s 3-34 and Daniel Reid’s 3-42.

Reid then completed a match-winning all-round performance by stroking 80 not out to carry his team to victory at 166-5.

At Black River High, the hosts beat Cornwall College by 120 runs.

Batting first, Black River High made 200-9. Quion Spence top scored with 84 against Joel Dean Williams (4-59).

Cornwall were bowled out for 80 as Williams top scored with 59 against seamer Jemar Morgan 4-28.

At Content Gardens Sports Complex, Tacky High beat York Castle High by 189 runs.

Jaquan Jackson (84) and Deventae Miller were at the forefront with the bat as Tacky High made 228 all out.

York Castle High made 39 all out in reply with Romario Murphy (4-11), Tedian Noyen (3-19) leading the way for Tacky.

At Sir P Oval, Tequan Roberts stroked a century as Clarendon College beat Glenmuir High by 149 runs.

Batting first, Clarendon College reached 206-5 with Roberts, who made 102, getting support from Dijuani West (56). Glenmuir’s off spinner Hijuani Ragoo claimed 4-57.

Glenmuir High reached 56 all out with fast bowler Shakiel Walters and off spinner Terome Gayle each taking 4-16.

At Port Esquivel, Dinthill Technical High beat Old Harbour High by six runs in a tense, low-scoring clash.

Orjay Whittingham played a virtually lone hand in making 46 as Dinthill were bowled out for 61 as Rodeen Richards took 4-14.

Dinthill’s bowlers then pulled them out of the fire as Jemone Jones took 4-6 and Rayshawn Goodhall claimed 4-14 to dismiss Old Harbour for 55.

At Ultimate Jerk Centre, Ocho Rios High School beat Brown’s Town High by 113 runs.

Ocho Rios High made 181-9 with Oneil Lampart scoring an unbeaten on 56.
