What’s the big deal?
Dear Editor,
Quit the nonsense. Portmore is a parish.
What’s the big deal about Portmore becoming a parish? It feels as though some people are acting as if it just broke away from Jamaica! This debate has spiralled out of control.
If I were in charge, I would take the bold step of further restructuring all the parishes into municipalities (based on the Development Order boundaries), each led by a volunteer associate mayor and a municipality board.
I believe the only roles of mayor should be reserved for cities like Kingston and Montego Bay. At the parish level, we would shift to a parish executive model for political leadership.
Let’s be clear — Portmore is now a parish, and it’s time to stop making a mountain out of a molehill! This isn’t as monumental as some would have us believe.
